Fashionista +: From Ugly Stepsister to a Modern Day Cinderella

Wednesday, December 12, 2007

Fashionistas, we have to talk. You know when you invest money in clothes, you expect them to be well made and fit you. You expect them to flatter your shape. You expect the color and detail to be rich, even after many launderings. You expect them to be well made and fit you. Ladies, am I correct?

Additionally, us plus size gals sometimes tend to accept that our price points often are higher than those of the clothes made for the non plus-size market. We will pay a bit more if the item lasts for quite some time.

However, us plus-size gals also tend to settle when faced with little to no options. Now if we get clothes that are well made, accent our plus-size curves perfectly and are not budget busters, well that's something that needs to be shouted from the rooftops.

IGIGI, a higher end plus-size retailer has a wrap blouse that, when I saw it online, I greeted it with a sense of skepticism. I'm not going to lie. After all, wrap blouses, for me, have been like a scavenger hunt. From past experiences, I've had blouses that:

  • wrap awkwardly;

  • gap inappropriately, whereby giving The Girls too much exposure;

  • fall apart after 2-3 washings;

  • material was cheap;

  • material was too sheer;

  • and so on and so on.

Please note that the wrap blouses I previously purchased have been from retailers such as Lane Bryant, Avenue, Spiegel, Macys, etc. with prices ranging from $49 - $70.

However, I was willing to give the wrap blouse a final shot.
IGIGI'S Nautical Blue Wrap Tunic seemed to fit my criteria. Having read the reviews online from satisfied customers cinched the deal. And, as a bonus when I ordered it, the top was on sale AND I had a coupon. HELLO!

When I received the wrap top, I was greeted by the most stunning shade of blue that was rich and sophisticated. Upon putting it on, nirvana was had, my friends. To summarize:

  • the color was rich and vibrant;

  • the fabric felt like a very comfortable t-shirt;

  • the fabric was dense enough to not show the details of the bra;

  • the wrap cord on the top was long enough;

  • the wrap top's length was flattering - not too long; not too short;

  • the top FIT PERFECTLY; and

  • the wrap top was just my size

IGIGI has accomplished what Lane Bryant, the Avenue, Spiegel, Macy*s, etc have not been able to: have a VERY well made wrap blouse for plus-size fashionistas.

Second test: How would it hold up after laundering? Perfectly! The color didn't fade in the slightest. The fabric didn't shrink or stretch out of shape. It looked (and fit) as perfectly as the very first time.

I've worn this blouse a few times and have received compliments galore. It's casual enough for daytime running errands. It's professional enough to be business appropriate. It's dressy enough for a night out on the town. Dress it up or dress it down - it's a wrap blouse for all occasions. Pop it with the right accessories and you will be the belle of the ball.

IGIGI, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I've gone from feeling like the ugly stepsister in the other, inferior wrap blouses to a Cinderella in the IGIGI version.

Now if only I can find that prince with the glass slipper.
